Our Origins

A proudly family owned and operated business dedicated to delivering Bespoke Architectural Homes and Development Projects since 2011.

HARPER was founded by Jonny over a decade ago, after initially working alongside his dad, Mark, in the property development sector.

We have since built a reputation in the bespoke architectural home sector, utilising our team’s knowledge and innovation to help contain costs and finesse design scopes to help our clients achieve a premium home within their set budget allocations.

In recent years we have evolved into a fully integrated construction and civil company and take pride in our uncompromising commitment to premium craftsmanship, innovation and passion for design and detail.

Our clients’ wants, needs, and desires are at the core of how we operate. Working with HARPER means working in partnership – we take a collaborative approach to working with our clients, architects, key consultants and quality subcontractors to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Our Team

Our best asset is the talent of our people. Our team all share the same commitment to quality and passion for innovative design and cost containment.

We keep all structural and carpentry work “in-house” and only engage trusted and carefully selected subcontractors from the network we have accrued over the years.

Our projects are directly managed by Jonny Harper, director and founder of HARPER, who has more than a decade of experience in the industry.

Jonny Harper

MANAGING DIRECTOR
Jonny is the founder and Managing Director at HARPER. After starting his building career in 2007, Jonny became a fully qualified carpenter and founded Harper Construction four years later. Positioning himself alongside his dad’s property investment company, Jonny worked on large-scale villa renovations and multi unit development projects. His experience on these types of projects massively increased his carpentry skills, project management capabilities and civil earthworks proficiency. Jonny’s immediate goal is to turn HARPER into a prominent high spec, architectural home builder. When Jonny is not running the company, you will find him spending time with his wife Sophie and two beautiful daughters, Primrose and Talulah. Between the little spare time he has running the business and family, you will most likely find him on the water kitesurfing.

Brad Visser

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Brad is one of the Directors at HARPER and is responsible for growing the business. Definitely the team member with the softest hands and the least carpentry experience, Brad comes from the Commercial Real Estate world where he used to sell buildings and development projects. Brad’s goal is to see HARPER become one of the most respected architectural home builders in the country and works diligently towards that everyday. He is supported by his wife, Megan and two very energetic daughters, Billy and Goldie. He often spends his spare time curiously listening to podcasts, making Kombucha and taking his girls to the beach.

Nick Inder

Qualified Carpenter
Nick is a qualified and very experienced builder with over 30 years under his belt. We are fortunate to have him on the HARPER team. Not only is he a hard worker, but also very knowledgeable and comes in handy whenever there is a problem that needs solving. Nick loves to build high quality homes and in his spare time collects old money. He believes the best part of working at HARPER is being surrounded by a friendly bunch of guys.

Pikitekaha (Kaha) Iversen

Qualified Carpenter
Kaha is only 25 years of age, yet an experienced builder with over 7 years carpentry experience. He specialises in site management, framing and finishing and brings a lot of good energy to the HARPER team. His ambitions are to take on more responsibility and eventually move into a Project Management role. His hobbies include 4×4 camping, skating and snowboarding. Kaha loves HARPER’s team environment and high standard of work.

Mike Leighton

Qualified Carpenter
Mike is one of our qualified builders with over 18 years’ experience. His primary responsibilities include carpentry and finishing work. His goal is to one day build his own home and when he is not on a HARPER site, you will most likely find him mountain biking in a forest somewhere. Mike loves the variety of projects at HARPER and that each day is different.

Adrian Roberts

Qualified Carpenter
Adrian is one of the newest team members at HARPER but has worked in the construction industry for more than 20 years. Adrian specialises in all aspects of carpentry, although he has been more involved in the finishing components of our projects. He finds motivation in delivering a great end result for our clients, loves to work hard and enjoys a good challenge. His hobbies include surfing and hanging out with his dogs. His working experience at HARPER has been enjoyable so far as he’s been working on a wide variety of projects. He loves the team environment, the fact that there’s a sharp attention to detail and that he is surrounded by a great bunch of guys everyday.

Richard Campbell

Apprentice
Richard has been in the building industry for 14 years and specialises in concreting, finishing and site coordinating. His immediate goal is to complete his apprenticeship and up-skill himself further at HARPER. Richard’s hobbies include surfing, dirt biking, skateboarding and Airsoft shooting. What he loves most about HARPER is the flexibility and the variety of work as well as the solid crew that backs it up.

Will Flannery

Apprentice
Will has been in the building industry for 5 years and specialises in finishings and cabinetry work. His short term goal is to get his carpentry qualifications and then to become licensed as a Licenced Building Professional in New Zealand. Will’s interests include tramping and playing tennis socially. What he loves most about HARPER is the good team environment and supportive boss.

Chris Thomas

Apprentice
Chris is an apprentice and has been with HARPER for over a year. He is a dedicated guy that loves to work hard and learn from the more experienced team members. In his spare time he loves skating and spinning records. He thinks the best thing about working at HARPER is working with good people and the positive working environment. His goal is to one day build his own home.
